Reconcile Board Chair Honored for Outstanding Service

November 16, 2009

At an annual Mass and awards ceremony held at the Hilton Riverside on the morning of Sunday November 15, Reconcile New Orleans Board Chair, Bruce Hoefer, Jr., was honored as a recipient of the Homines Pro Aliis (People for Others) Award for Reconcile New Orleans. The service award is given to a committed lay leader at each local organization affiliated with the Jesuit New Orleans Province.

In accepting the award, Bruce spoke about his love for the program and his personal commitment to serving the youth of New Orleans. Bruce encouraged everyone in the audience to attend a Reconcile graduation because it is so inspiring to see young people who have overcome immense adversity realize their hard work paying off. Among the many guests, Bruce was joined at the event by his wife Libby, his daughter Grace, his mother and father, and many members of the Reconcile staff.

A founding board member for Reconcile, Bruce has often used his legal expertise to advise and counsel students in the program. His efforts with Reconcile students have inspired a recent series called “Nights of Listening,” where various members of the legal, judicial, and law enforcement system gather to meet with students, hear their concerns, and provide counsel on issues important to them. We are grateful for Bruce’s leadership and dedication, and we congratulate him on his well-deserved honor!
